The socks are being trialled at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to prevent lacerations of the lower legs. 

According to the researchers, at least three million older people may suffer these injuries.

The knee-length socks incorporate Kevlar, a strong synthetic fibre that is a component of body armour for the police and Army.

Researchers will compare injury rates over 16 weeks for those wearing them and a placebo group in ordinary socks.”
